According to FactSet-Mergerstat, 5,700 privately held companies were sold in 2006; however, PriceWaterhouse Coopers reported that only 22% of all U.S. business owners have an exit plan.
Additionally, FactSet-Mergerstat reported 10,600 announced M & A deals, a 46% increase in deals announced annually since 2002.
M & A activity has a hopeful future, and the most active industries among private sellers are consistently computer software, supplies/services, construction and engineering.
